Bathroom Remodel in Woodbridge, NJ

This one went further than most bathroom remodels go. The walls, the floor and the window framing all came out before anything new went in — new subfloor, new floor framing, the window opening rebuilt square — and a completely different room went back on top of it. Under two weeks.

What This Project Included

•Down to the frame — walls, floor and fixtures out, back to bare studs and joists, so nothing new was fixed to anything that had already failed.

•New subfloor and floor framing — the joists levelled and the subfloor rebuilt. In a house this age the floor is rarely flat, and tile laid over a floor that moves does not stay whole for long.

•Window reframed — the opening rebuilt square before the wall closed up, rather than tiling around a frame that had gone out of true.

•Marble-look tile — large-format on the surround and a new floor tile through the room.

•New tub and fittings — set level on the new framing, with the valves roughed in before the walls went back.

Almost none of this shows in the finished photographs, which is the point. Anyone can put tile on a wall. The subfloor, the framing and the window opening are what decide whether it is still flat and square in ten years, and they are the reason the same room came back looking like a different one.
